Figma, the popular cloud-based design software company,
raised approximately $1.2 billion by pricing its Class A shares at $33 in its initial
public offering, well above its earlier $30–$32 range. Trading began under the
ticker “FIG” on the New York Stock Exchange on July 31, 2025, and the stock
immediately soared—opening several times over its IPO price, with gains
exceeding 200% to 240%, pushing Figma’s market valuation to around $19.3 billion, with
some estimates nearing $59 billion based on early trading metrics .
The surge capped off months
of anticipation following a blocked $20 billion acquisition attempt by Adobe in
2023. Figma’s decision to list came after that deal collapsed, creating space
for the company to chart its own course on the public market .
Investor enthusiasm was
intense—the IPO was oversubscribed by around 30 to 40 times, with institutional
demand lifting the offer well beyond initial expectations. More than 36.9
million shares were sold, including stock from the company and existing
stakeholders .
Figma’s financial
performance underpins the market’s strong response: revenue grew more than 40%
year-over-year, topping $749 million in 2024, followed by consistent growth in
early 2025. The company also recently unveiled a suite of AI-powered design
tools—like Figma Make—that unlock no-code app building and automated
prototyping, signaling its ambitions beyond just interface design .
But analysts caution
against euphoria. Despite strong growth, Figma’s valuation sits at a high
multiple—around 18 to 20 times projected future revenue. Competitive pressure
from Adobe, Canva, Microsoft, and AI-enabled startups poses risks. And while AI
is a key differentiator, it could also diminish stickiness if design tools
evolve rapidly .
Still, this debut marks a
milestone: Figma’s successful IPO could signal a revival in tech listings after
several subdued years. It serves as a bellwether for other high-growth,
VC-backed companies considering public offerings in the AI era .
